This workshop will discuss gardening hand tools and their maintenance. Louis Bauer, Director of Horticulture at Greenwood, will explain how to use common and more unusual gardening tools, as well as how to keep them clean and sharpened. Your garden work will go smoothly by making good tool choices and keeping them in ready-to-use condition. If you have questions about your own tools, please bring them with you. $10 for members; $15 for non-members.

Thursday, May 5, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

Create a petite French-inspired kitchen garden in a container that can be placed in a sunny spot out of the reach of foragers. Plants, seeds, and containers will be supplied to create a harvest for the rest of the season. $60 for members; $70 for non-members. Space is limited.

Water conservation is an increasingly important aspect of home gardening. Learn some water conservation techniques from Greenwood’s horticultural team including plant selection and wise water use, as well as maintenance practices such as mulching, soil improvement, and timing of activities in the garden. This workshop uses Greenwood’s landscape as an outdoor classroom. Please wear comfortable walking shoes. Free for members; $10 for non-members.

Sept. 22: Houseplant Propagation Workshop
Thursday, September 22, 10:00 a.m.

Propagating your own houseplants is a great way to have a vigorous, compact new plant. It can be no more complicated than the average kitchen task, though a little extra patience is helpful. We will cover the techniques needed and give some hands-on experience, including a propagule to take away. $10 for members; $15 for non-members.

Oct. 18: Recording your Collection of Plants
Tuesday, October 18, 10:00 a.m.

Join Brendan Huggins, Greenwood’s Gardener and Horticulture Records Coordinator, for an exploration into recording and monitoring a garden’s progress. Gardeners rely on various formats to archive plant successes, and, unfortunately at times, garden failures. Bring questions and gain ideas to simplify this important task. Free for members; $10 for non-members.

Nov. 8: Tabletop Terrarium Workshop
Tuesday, November 8, 10:00 a.m.

Originally called a Wardian case, named for their English inventor Dr. Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward, terrariums provide natural greenery all winter long, and fall is an excellent time to make one. These self-sustaining, table-top glass containers are filled with moistureloving tropicals and ferns. Choose from an assortment of decorative glass containers and plants at this popular workshop. $45 for members; $55 for non-members.
