Tours of Greenwood Gardens

Tours of Greenwood Gardens transport visitors to an era of country estates, gentleman farmers, and elegant tea parties on wide swaths of lawn. A tour of Greenwood is a multilayered experience that includes historic Arts and Crafts-inspired architecture, superb plantings, and wide vistas.

At this time, to ensure the safety of our visitors, Greenwood Gardens is only open to the public through guided tours, programs, and for special events. To visit Greenwood please join one of our guided tours.

Each hour-long guided tour begins at the formal entrance to Greenwood Gardens, beside the magnificent Sycamore Allee. A stroll past the cottages and carriage house offers an opportunity to experience the early 20th-century architecture with Arts and Crafts ornamentation. In the formal gardens, visitors gaze out over wide stepped terraces, moss covered reflecting pools, and perennial beds to the wooded hillsides of the Watchung Mountains. Exquisite plantings are set against crumbling stucco walls, along set-stone pathways, and under garden statues of mystical creatures and colorful Rookwood tile.

Further afield visitors encounter the less formal side of Greenwood – ponds surrounded by a meadow of grass and wildflowers. Heritage chickens, geese, and swans roam in the ruins of the original greenhouses.

Visitors enjoy refreshments on the main terrace and the opportunity to ask more questions about Greenwood's past, present, and future.
